Something has shifted in the race for mayor of Los Angeles after Spender Pratt’s amazing performance in the debate earlier this week.
Even CBS News has done a ‘fact check’ on incumbent Democrat candidate Karen Bass, something that is usually reserved for Republican candidates. It’s extremely rare for the media to call out a Democrat candidate in this way.
The fact check had mostly to do with claims made about the wildfires, which are clearly going to play a much larger role in this race than Democrats were hoping.

Here is a partially edited transcript from the debate that’s relevant to the first CBS News fact check about the mayor’s epic mishandling of the 2025 Palisades Fire that destroyed nearly 7,000 structures and killed 12 people:
SPENCER PRATT: A lot of people talk about climate change and hurricane-force winds. The winds in the Pacific Palisades never reached higher than 40 mph. For those first six hours, they didn’t go above 27 miles per hour.
The whole point of this exchange is that Bass is running around blaming the fire on Climate Change.
KAREN BASS: He talked about the winds — that is just completely inaccurate. If that were accurate, then the planes would have been able to fly. And so if the winds reached close to 100 miles an hour and the planes were unable to fly.
PRATT: Yes, she mentioned me. So this is — she’s an incredible liar. Everyone on their phones, Google it. 40 weather stations in the Pacific Palisades. It never went above 40 miles per hour. She is referencing the Altadena fire.
BIASED LEFTIST MODERATOR: I have to interrupt you. No name-calling, please.
PRATT: Yeah, but no name calling? She just lied though… No more lying. We need the truth.
Here’s the CBS News fact check:
Weather modeling reviewed for my reporting shows winds in the Palisades during those first several hours of the fire were, in fact under 40 miles per hour. Planes could and did fly. Stronger winds intensified later in the evening. And that distinction matters because the earliest hours of a wildfire are often the most critical for containment.

People in the left are absolutely frothing at the mouth over the decision by the Virginia Supreme Court that tore down their effort to gerrymander the state.
Hasan Piker, an America-hating, self-proclaimed communist and streamer, who Democrats just can’t seem to get enough of, has alsready suggested violent revolution as a fix for the problem.
It’s just amazing how political violence has become so normal for people on the left. They just want their way and will do anything to get it.

Democrats exploded in fury Friday after the Virginia Supreme Court struck down a party-backed redistricting map central to their midterm election strategy, with at least one prominent leftist voice going so far as to call violent revolution “inevitable.”
In a 4-3 decision, the Virginia Supreme Court ruled that a voter-approved map, which would give Democrats a 10-1 advantage in U.S. House races, violated the state’s constitution because of procedural errors in the map’s passage. Virginia voters will cast ballots in the 2026 midterms using the same district maps from the 2022 and 2024 elections, which Democrats currently hold 6-5.
But Democratic lawmakers and commentators alike have framed the Supreme Court’s ruling as an act going against the will of the people. Hasan Piker, a popular leftist streamer who has espoused antisemitic rhetoric and campaigns with congressional candidates, accused the Virginia Supreme Court of denying the results of the state’s redistricting referendum.
“Scotus gutted the voting rights act and tennessee carved up the last dem district destroying black voter power in the state,” Piker wrote on X. “Those who make peaceful revolution impossible, make violent revolution inevitable.”

Former President Barack Obama is under fire for his decision to speak at an upcoming event in Napa Valley, California.
According to Politico, the former president will deliver remarks to an audience of CEOs brought together by Declan Kelly, former chairman and chief executive of the consulting firm Teneo, who resigned from that position after reportedly getting drunk and groping a number of women at a high-powered charity event in 2021.
“It’s disgusting to have a president who has championed women speak at an event hosted by someone with this type of track record of treating women,” a female former employee said, speaking on condition of anonymity, according to Politico.
Another anonymous former Teneo employee agreed.
“President Obama should not be in the business of rehabbing the reputation and accepting money from someone accused of groping multiple people at a charity event. Some red lines are not meant to be crossed,” the second former employee said, according to Politico.
According to a report at the time from the New York Post’s Page Six, the 2021 charity event was the VIP party that followed the Vax Live concert organized by the organization Global Citizen.
Vax Live billed itself as “a global broadcast special celebrating COVID-19 vaccines.” It was chaired by Prince Harry and his wife, Meghan, and featured messages from the now-deceased Pope Francis and then-President Joe Biden.
“One source told Page Six that Kelly was extremely drunk and acted inappropriately with as many as six women at the party in front of other guests,” the column reported.
Kelly resigned from Teneo less than two months later, according to a CNBC report.
“Since the event two months ago Mr. Kelly immediately committed to sobriety, is undertaking ongoing counselling from healthcare professionals, and has temporarily reduced his work responsibilities,” a representative of Kelly told The Wall Street Journal at the time.
Meanwhile, Kelly’s connections to powerful figures in the Democratic Party go beyond Obama.
From 2009 through 2011, Kelly served as special economic envoy to Northern Ireland under then-Secretary of State Hillary Clinton. Likewise, a co-founder of Teneo, the company Kelly led, was Doug Band, a one-time counselor to former President Bill Clinton who was credited in a 2020 Vanity Fair as having “virtually invented Clinton’s postpresidential life.”
Now, Kelly serves as founder, chairman, and CEO of the investment company Consello. Senior management at the company includes former New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady.
Consello organized the event where Obama will speak.

Elsewhere on X, author and political commentator Matt Stoller of the American Economic Liberties Project, called Obama’s speaking gig “sad,” though not because of Kelly’s 2021 groping scandal.
“Obama has been doing paid speaking gigs at corporate events, with no one tracking it,” Stoller wrote. “Here he talks to an audience of CEOs for the lobbying/pr firm Consello. He’s the former President and this is how he chooses to spend his time? He doesn’t need the money. Just sad.”

Stoller’s claim that Obama “doesn’t need the money” may well be true, but it also might not take into account possible future legal troubles.
In July 2025, Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard released documents that allegedly showed Obama at the center of what she called a “treasonous conspiracy” to undermine President Donald Trump’s first administration by manufacturing intelligence that supported the since-debunked Russia collusion hoax.

Four states are monitoring Americans who returned from a cruise ship where three passengers died during an outbreak of hantavirus.
Virginia, Georgia, California, and Arizona all reported that residents of those states were on the MV Hondius, have returned home, but are not showing symptoms of the illness, according to Newsweek.
The Virginia passenger “is currently in good health, not showing any signs of infection, and is under public health monitoring,” the state’s Department of Health said.
“Generally speaking, we believe the risk to the general public to be low,” a representative of the department added.

“Hantaviruses are a group of viruses carried by rodents that can cause severe disease in humans.
People are usually infected through contact with infected rodents or their urine, droppings or saliva.

An Arizona Department of Health Services representative said the passenger that came back to Arizona “is not symptomatic and is being monitored by public health,” the representative said.
California officials said they were told travelers had returned to the state, and confirmed the risk to residents was low.
The Georgia Department of Public Health said it is monitoring two residents who returned home from the ship, saying they likewise show no signs of an infection.

Three passengers of the ship have died, while multiple others were taken ill.
Hantavirus generally spreads by inhaling rodent droppings, although one variant can be transmitted from person to person.
The federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said the “administration is closely monitoring the situation with U.S. travelers onboard the M/V Hondius cruise ship with confirmed hantavirus.”
The State Department is leading a “coordinated, whole-of-government response including direct contact with passengers, diplomatic coordination, and engagement with domestic and international health authorities,” the CDC said.

Passengers from at least 12 countries left the cruise ship on the South Atlantic island of St. Helena on April 24, almost two weeks after the first passenger died.
The Dutch health ministry said a female flight attendant who was not on the ship is being tested for hantavirus and is in isolation after having contact with an infected person aboard a KLM plane.
A Swiss man who left the ship has tested positive for the virus.

The ship is heading for the Canary Islands, where about 90 passengers on board will be able to leave the ship, according to the New York Post.
Officials believe the outbreak began when two Dutch passengers were infected during a wildlife expedition, according to USA Today.

Alabama on Friday filed an emergency appeal at the Supreme Court asking the high court to allow it to throw out its current rigged congressional map.
Alabama’s request to toss out its racist, gerrymandered congressional map comes after the Supreme Court last month declared Louisiana’s newly-drawn Congressional map an unconstitutional gerrymander.
The case, State of Louisiana v. Phillip Callais (and the related Press Robinson v. Phillip Callais), stems from Louisiana’s woke lawmakers caving to left-wing judges and creating a second “majority-minority” congressional district.
Louisiana delayed its May 16 House primaries last Thursday after the Supreme Court’s blockbuster ruling.
Alabama petitioned the Supreme Court on Friday amid the gerrymander wars.
Conservative Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas ordered a response by Monday evening.

Alabama filed an emergency appeal at the US Supreme Court on Friday asking the justices to allow the state to revert to a congressional map with one majority-Black district, setting up a potentially thorny question for the high court as the justices have openly sparred over whether partisanship has played a role in its redistricting decisions.
State officials rushed up to the court late Friday asking it to halt a lower court ruling that has blocked it from using a map it enacted in 2023. It did so based on a blockbuster decision last week on Louisiana’s congressional map that severely weakened the scope of the landmark Voting Rights Act of 1965.
The appeal, which is seeking an answer by May 14, came hours after Alabama Gov. Kay Ivey signed legislation allowing for new US House primaries if courts allow the state to use different congressional districts in this year’s elections.
“Alabama’s case mirrors Louisiana’s, and they should end the same way: with this year’s elections run with districts based on lawful policy goals, not race,” the state told the Supreme Court in its emergency appeal.
On Thursday, Tennessee became the ninth state to approve a new congressional map amid the redistricting wars.
Tennessee’s Republican-led House passed the new map that eliminates the state’s only majority-black district in Memphis.
Shortly thereafter, the State Senate passed the congressional map.
Tennessee Governor Bill Lee signed the new map into law.

The reality of the Trump economy smashed bleak projections to bits in April, according to new Department of Labor data.
April’s jobs report shows that employers added 115,000 jobs, according to CBS News.
Economists had gone all in on bleak and bleaker, with a forecast from FactSet predicting a gain of only 65,00 jobs.
Experts surveyed by The Wall Street Journal were even more pessimistic, predicting growth at only 55,000 jobs.
The unemployment rate was unchanged from March at 4.3 percent, CBS reported.
The health care sector added 37,000 jobs, while transportation and warehousing added 30,000 jobs. The federal government’s efforts to reduce its cost to taxpayers showed up in the jobs report as a loss of 9,000 positions.

March has shown employers adding 185,000 jobs.
“The addition of 115,000 jobs in April continues to highlight the resilience of the U.S. labor market,” Jerry Tempelman, vice president of economic and fixed income research at Mutual of America Capital Management, said in an email.
“In spite of higher gas prices, we’ve seen minimal disruptions to the U.S. economy due to the conflict in the Middle East. In fact, the equity markets continue to trade at or near new highs,” he said.
The report is “evidence of the underlying resilience of this economy and of this labor market, despite all of the slings and arrows of outrageous concerns about the Middle East and unemployment and inflation and the Fed,” said Scott Clemons, chief investment strategist at Brown Brothers Harriman, according to CNBC.

Acting Secretary of Labor Keith Sonderling noted in a statement that, “Despite doom-and-gloom rhetoric from pundits and economists, America’s economic comeback is clearly accelerating under President Trump, with job growth now shattering expectations two months in a row.”
Sonderling noted that since 2025, “total private sector job growth under this Administration now stands at more than 700,000 new jobs.”
“Thanks to President Trump’s Working Families Tax Cuts, job creators were clearly feeling empowered this tax season and are investing in American workers,” he said.

A crazed Samurai sword-wielding man who was residing in a ‘low-income housing’ unit in Venice Beach, California, slashed a victim’s arm so badly that it was squirting blood everywhere.
Venice Beach has turned into a crime-riddled, drug-infested tent city sh*t hole under Democrat leadership.
The Los Angeles seaside city was once a world-famous tourist hot spot known for its boardwalk and outdoor gym, “Muscle Beach.”
Now it’s a 3rd-world hellhole.
On Thursday evening, the suspect, identified by The New York Post as a white man in his late 20s named Justin Tucker, retrieved a large sword from his housing unit and slashed a man’s arm after he hit him up for drugs.
Justin Tucker lives in a low-income housing complex at 720 Rose Avenue.
Neighbors posted a wanted poster with Justin Tucker’s photo with a warning, “Do not approach him.”
“You may be aware that there was an incident in front of Rose Apartments this evening,” the wanted poster said, according to The New York Post.
“Unfortunately, our neighbor Justin Tucker was involved,” the poster said. “He is suspected to be armed and dangerous.”
As of Friday evening, Justin Tucker still had not been taken into custody.
Photos from the crime scene show huge pools of blood near the low-income housing complex.
The victim was rushed to a local hospital in serious condition.

The New York Post reported:
A vicious Venice resident is on the run after he allegedly used a samurai sword to nearly hack off another man’s arm, leaving a bloody scene and shocking neighbors.
The psychotic sword fighter allegedly used a 16-inch samurai blade to assault a 27-year-old victim on the street in front of a low-income housing complex at 720 Rose Ave. on Thursday around 6:30 p.m., according to the police and fire officials.
The attacker was identified as 720 Rose Ave. resident Justin Tucker by the building’s management, nonprofit Venice Housing Corporation, which provides low-income housing and job services to the neighborhood’s inhabitants.
Police would not confirm Tucker as a suspect in the attack. He is described as a white man in his late 20’s, with a short haircut.
Two witnesses said the man identified as Tucker had just returned to 720 Rose Ave. from a shopping trip to a nearby Smart and Final when he was accosted by a man in front of the building who asked Tucker if he had any drugs.
Crime spiked in Venice during the Covid pandemic.
A dead body was found in one of the tents lining the Venice Boardwalk in 2021.
According to LAPD, the victim died from blunt force trauma to the head.

Today, the Department of War announced the initial release of new, never-before-seen files on Unidentified Anomalous Phenomena (UAP) as part of the Presidential Unsealing and Reporting System for UAP Encounters (PURSUE).
This interagency effort includes the White House, the Office of the Director of National Intelligence (ODNI), the Department of Energy (DOE), the DOW’s All-domain Anomaly Resolution Office (AARO), the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), and additional components of U.S. intelligence agencies.
The collection will be housed on WAR.GOV/UFO and additional files will be released by the Department of War on a rolling basis.

The American people have asked for more transparency on these topics, and President Trump is delivering. While all of the files have been reviewed for security purposes, many of the materials have not yet been analyzed for the resolution of any anomalies.

Illegal aliens are abandoning their asylum and humanitarian claims and leaving the United States in dramatically higher numbers under President Donald Trump’s immigration crackdown.
According to new immigration court data reviewed by The Washington Post, more than 80,000 illegals accepted “voluntary departure” orders between January 2025 and March 2026,
This is over seven times higher than the final 15 months of the Biden administration, when roughly 11,400 chose to leave voluntarily.
The numbers suggest the Trump administration’s tougher enforcement policies are accelerating self-deportation and encouraging migrants to leave rather than remain in detention while fighting removal cases.
However, millions of illegals remain in the U.S. after taking advantage of the Biden regime’s open border policy.
Voluntary departure allows immigrants to leave the country on their own terms instead of receiving a formal deportation order, potentially making it easier for them to return legally in the future.

The sharp increase comes as ICE detention numbers surged under Trump, with many migrants now facing lengthy stays in custody while awaiting immigration hearings.
Court data reviewed by the Vera Institute of Justice found that more than 70 percent of illegals granted voluntary departure orders during Trump’s second term were being held in detention when they agreed to leave.

Surging ursine populations have become a problem in Japan
Bears are waking up from winter slumber – ready to chase humans.
Here on TGP, we have been tracking the effect that rising ursine populations are having around the world.
Notably, last year, Japan had a record number of 13 deaths caused by bear attacks.

CBS News reported:
“Japan confirmed Friday the first fatal bear attack of 2026 after a record 13 deaths last year, with reports pointing to a jump in sightings as the animals emerge hungry from hibernation.
[…] This year’s first confirmed fatality, reportedly a 55-year-old woman, was discovered on April 21 in Iwate prefecture in northern Japan, according to the environment ministry.”

Two more human remains were found this week and are also suspected bear attack victims.
“One of the bodies was discovered elsewhere in the Iwate region on Thursday, while another was found in a forest in Yamagata prefecture on Tuesday, police said, without providing the cause of the deaths. […] City officials said local hunters were expected to begin patrolling the area on Friday, according to the broadcaster.”
Besides the 13 dead from the attacks, no fewer than 200 people were also injured.
“The animals were seen on airport runways, walking on golf courses, roaming near schools and causing panic in supermarkets and hot spring resorts almost on a daily basis. A bear that rampaged through a supermarket for two days was lured out with food coated in honey, and police said the animal was trapped and later killed.”
