Can you change a tire on a car? Could you plant and harvest a wheat crop? If provided with the materials, could you knit a sweater? Tick tock, tick tock?
In my case the answer is a resounding NO to all three questions. If transplanted to the past, I’d be rather pathetic. Arguably an object of pity.
It’s something to keep in mind with education top of mind. Supposedly what we learn in school has predictive qualities for future earnings and achievement. Which is absurd. We know this simply because what they teach in school (whether public or private) hasn’t changed much in decades. At the same time the nature of work has evolved in substantial fashion.

Figure that commerce doesn’t wait for academia, which is a blinding glimpse of the obvious. The late Steve Jobs said in a speech once that the most valuable class he attended while at Reed College (from which he dropped out) was one on calligraphy. It gave him the idea for multiple fonts on computer concepts running through Jobs’s head that most certainly weren’t running through the heads of his professors.
What about Jeff Bezos. Was he taught “the internet” and “online commerce” while at Princeton? Hopefully the questions answer themselves. Same with the question of whether or not Elon Musk was taught “electric vehicles” while at Queen’s University in Canada.
Please keep all of the above in mind as the deep-in-thought lament declining American math scores. Supposedly it bodes ill for the future. Actually, quite the opposite.
What it signals is progress. It’s a sign that we’re rapidly forgetting what we quite simply don’t need to know. Yes, you read that right. Where we’re headed Algebra and Calculus won’t be required. Surely I’ve talked millions off of the ledge. One can at least hope.
At a time when technological advances increasingly do for us, the knowledge formerly required to thrive rapidly becomes less valuable. Backwards you say?

More realistically, the worship of education is the backwards part. It’s accepted wisdom among the deep in thought that without education, we’ll fall hopelessly behind. Americans don’t know who the Supreme Court justices are, they don’t know who the Speaker of the House is, and they can’t do advanced math. Nation in decline! Sell bonds! And Stocks! Again, quite the opposite.
In the U.S. we don’t need to memorize the Supreme Court justices or the Speaker of the House simply because if we ever need to know either, we can ask Siri or Alexa or name your device. We don’t need math because machines do it for us. Again, progress.
The mistake is in the presumption-that-just-won’t-die that progress is born of filling our brains with what they’re said to teach us at school. In reality, the surest sign of societal or economic progress is how much knowledge we can shed. Math is no different.
If machines do the math for us, we don’t stop thinking as much as we suddenly have the capacity to learn what we didn’t have the time or capacity to learn in the past. No doubt it’s cool to be able to change a tire, knit a sweater, or grow vegetables in the backyard, but it’s certainly not necessary. In the “closed economy” that is the world economy, we’re free to unlearn all sorts of formerly necessary skills. Divided labor with man and machine is brilliant.

What’s important is that there are no exceptions to the rule about “unlearning.” Which is why the reasonable will turn their noses up to falling math scores. Far from a sign of decline, they signal life and living standards that are getting better by the day. Oh, to be a baby today!

Study: Half of All Chicagoans Will Witness a Shooting by Age 40
A new Journal of the American Medical Association study finds that more than half of all Chicagoans will witness a shooting by age 40.
Researchers found the numbers are even more stark when broken down along racial barriers, with over half of all Black and Latino study participants by that age having already witnessed such an occurrence, compared to one-fourth of all white participants.

“We expected levels of exposure to gun violence to be high, but not this high,” study author Charles Lanfear, an assistant professor at the University of Cambridge’s Institute of Criminology, told Fox32Chicago.com. “Our findings are frankly startling and disturbing. A substantial portion of Chicago’s population could be living with trauma as a result of witnessing shootings and homicides, often at a very young age.”Researchers said the average age for witnessing a shooting was 14 years old, with women only slightly less likely than men to have undergone such a dark experience. Data also shows men were much more likely to be gunshot victims.
The study tracked more than 2,000 Chicagoans over 25 years, from childhood and adolescence in the 1990s to the start of middle age, with individuals who moved away from the city continuing to be tracked and the overwhelming majority of the gun violence incidents that were witnessed taking place on city streets.
Researchers added some of the participants actually became victims, with about 7% of all Black and Latino participants becoming gunshot victims by age 40, compared to 3% of white participants. The average age for being shot was 17.

Researchers also called attention to areas of all the gun violence, finding that in recent years rates of shootings within a 250-meter radius of where Black participants lived were over 12 times higher than for areas around the homes of white participants. In the case of Latino participants, the rates of shootings were roughly four times higher than white participants.
“The long-term stress of exposure to firearm violence can contribute to everything from lower test scores for school kids to diminished life expectancy through heart disease,” Lanfear added.

Trump Taps Flynn
At an event in Miami over the weekend, the retired general was speaking to a crowd when he whipped out his phone and got “45” on the line to give his fans a message.
The event was part of the “ReAwaken America Tour,” aimed at returning to traditional, Christian values.
Troubling stuff, I know. Rumor is, some of the attendees might even have questions about the efficacy of a certain novel medical treatment.
But we don’t have to let them ruin our fun. General Flynn and the crowd certainly didn’t!
When Flynn got the President on the line, the crowd went fairly nuts. It’s a little hard to hear the entire conversation, given that Flynn was trying to pump up the volume by holding his phone next to a mic, but you can hear what you need to hear.
Trump thanked the crowd for coming, but then said what would predictably send the liberal media running for their barrels of ink:
“General Flynn, he’s some general. He’s some man. He took abuse like nobody could have handled and he came out bigger, better, stronger than ever before.
We love him, he’s a leader, and you [to Flynn] just stay wealthy and healthy and well and everything, I want you to have great lives in general. You just have to stay healthy because we’re bringing you back.”
You can’t hear what Trump said after that on account of the crowd.

If there’s a man with a life as comparably exciting as Donald Trump, it’s Flynn. He was commissioned as a second lieutenant in the Army, and saw his first action in Grenada.
Later in his career, he would hold a number of heavy-duty intelligence positions during the Iraq War and the Afghanistan War.
He came to serve as the Director of the Defense Intelligence Agency under Barack Obama, before retiring from the military in 2014.
Flynn was even considered an option as Trump’s running mate in the 2016 election, and would come to serve briefly as National Security Advisor.

President Biden, speaking at a historically black college (HBCU) over the weekend, told those in attendance that “white supremacy” is the most dangerous domestic terrorist threat facing America today.
Biden was delivering a commencement address to Howard University’s class of 2023 on Saturday when he made the shameless attempt to pander to the graduates through race-baiting.
He urged those moving on in their lives to “stand up against the poison of white supremacy” just as he allegedly did on his inauguration day.
“Enough of us have the guts and the hearts to … stand up for the best in us,” he said. “To stand up against the poison of white supremacy, as I did in my Inaugural Address — to single it out as the most dangerous terrorist threat to our homeland is white supremacy.”

Texas Gov. Abbott: ‘We Need 15,000 or 150,000’ Soldiers to Secure Border
Texas Gov. Greg Abbott says the Biden administration’s response to the latest surge at the southern is “a day late and tens of thousands of soldiers too few.”
Through Operation Lone Star, Texas Department of Public Safety troopers, Texas National Guard and local law enforcement officers are continuing to interdict smuggling and trafficking of people, drugs and weapons, and transnational criminal activity between ports of entry stemming from illegal entry from Mexico.

Since Abbott launched Operation Lone Star in March 2021, OLS officers have apprehended more than 373,000 illegal foreign nationals and made more than 28,000 criminal arrests with over 25,000 felony charges reported. They’ve also seized more than 402 million lethal doses of fentanyl, enough to kill more than everyone in the United States.
The Biden administration’s “complete refusal to enforce federal immigration laws” has created a national security crisis, Abbott argues.
“Only when President Biden came into office and eliminated all those policies and laid down a welcome mat to the entire world that we suddenly have this chaos,” he told Fox News Sunday. “President Biden is sending 1,500 soldiers to the border to do paperwork. That is not going to secure the border. We need not 1,500 soldiers; we need 15,000 or 150,000 to secure the border because of the open border policies of the Biden Administration. This is a day late and tens of thousands of soldiers too few.”
A ago, Abbott deployed several hundred Texas National Guard tactical troops to El Paso and the Rio Grande Valley. They successfully blocked entry to areas along the Rio Grande River by using concertina wire and other tactical maneuvers. In another interview with Fox News, Abbott said, “Last December, there was a long line of migrants outside of El Paso trying to get in,” referring to when the city previously declared an emergency and he sent 400 troops there to help restore order. “We set up a massive razor wire wall that’s now 18 miles long. Overnight, the migrants stopped flowing at that location into El Paso. We’ve seen this work, and we’re going to repeat it as often as possible up and down the border.”
Texas DPS officers continue to apprehend human smugglers including, most recently, a Ukrainian woman attempting to smuggle Hondurans into the country. She was apprehended in Val Verde County.
After making a traffic stop, the troopers discovered five Hondurans in her car. The Ukrainian, and a man from Houston sitting in the passenger seat, said they were being paid $1,500 per person to smuggle them to San Antonio from the border. Instead, they were arrested and face criminal charges for human smuggling.
In another recent traffic stop in Uvalde, troopers seized 38 pounds of methamphetamine. After pulling over the driver of a Jeep Cherokee on Highway 90, numerous illegal foreign nationals inside the vehicle bailed out and ran towards the brush. Two were seen carrying black backpacks that were later recovered from the ground during a search with Border Patrol agents. They discovered 38 pounds of methamphetamine inside the backpacks. It’s uncertain how many people got away and how much drugs those who got away were also carrying.
The driver, from Houston, was arrested and faces criminal charges for human smuggling and engaging in organized crime.
In neighboring Kinney County, DPS troopers engaged in a high-speed chase on Highway 90, pursuing a driver who stole a white pickup truck. He drove through a fence onto private land and continued driving over shrubs until the truck got stuck. Nine illegal foreign nationals, who appeared to be all military-age single men, bailed out and ran away.

DPS’ Air Operations Division followed them by air and kept a visual on them as they ran. The driver, from Round Rock, took off his shirt as he ran away but was eventually apprehended and held at gunpoint until he laid down and was handcuffed. He was later charged with human smuggling. Ultimately, nine illegal foreign nationals were caught and apprehended by Border Patrol.
Despite the Biden administration claiming the border is closed and it’s prepared to process as many people into the U.S. as possible, Abbott argues the administration is solely to blame for creating a national security crisis.
He recently tweeted, “[President] Joe Biden’s open border policies have enticed record-breaking levels of illegal immigration. Texans – and Americans – have had enough of his lies about the border crisis. Stop the chaos. Biden MUST do his constitutional duty and secure the border.”
Since last year, Texas has bused more than 17,000 illegal foreign nationals to four sanctuary cities. This includes more than 9,200 to Washington, D.C., over 1,600 to Chicago, over 5,700 to New York City, and more than 925 to Philadelphia as of May 12.

FBI Issues Weak Response – Admits Fault in Durham Report, Claims “Missteps Identified in the Report Could Have Been Prevented”
On Monday, the FBI released a response to the damning report by Special Counsel John Durham, who determined that the DOJ and FBI “failed to uphold their mission of strict fidelity to the law” when they opened an investigation into the Trump-Russia collusion hoax.
The agency issued a weak response in which it admits fault in the Durham report and claims that “dozens of corrective actions” have already been implemented as a result of the investigation.
“The conduct in 2016 and 2017 that Special Counsel Durham examined was the reason that current FBI leadership already implemented dozens of corrective actions, which have now been in place for some time,” the agency said in a statement.
The FBI argues that the agency’s error in Durham’s investigation might have been avoided if the recommended measures had been implemented sooner.
“Had those reforms been in place in 2016, the missteps identified in the report could have been prevented. Special Counsel John Durham released a damning final report Monday after more than three years investigating the Russia collusion probe, declaring the FBI had no verified intelligence or evidence when it opened up the Crossfire Hurricane probe of President Donald Trump’s campaign in the summer of 2016.
“Neither U.S. law enforcement nor the Intelligence Community appears to have possessed any actual evidence of collusion in their holdings at the commencement of the Crossfire Hurricane investigation,” Durham wrote in a 300-plus page report sent to Congress and others and obtained by Just the News. DOJ was slated to make the report public later Monday.
The prosecutor faulted the FBI and Justice Department for failing to follow their own standards and allowing a probe to persist, including the surveillance of an American citizen without basis under the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act.
“Based on the review of Crossfire Hurricane and related intelligence activities, we concluded the Department and the FBI failed to uphold their important mission of strict fidelity to the law in connection with certain events and activities described in this report,” Durham wrote.
According to John Durham’s report, Hillary Clinton’s plan to link Trump’s campaign to Russia was briefed by former CIA Director John Brennan to Barack Obama and Joe Biden in August 2016!
“In late July 2016, US intelligence agencies obtained insight into Russian intelligence analysis alleging that US Presidential candidate Hillary Clinton had approved a campaign plan to stir up a scandal against US Presidential candidate Donald Trump by tying him to Putin and the Russians’ hacking of the Democratic National Committee. The IC does not know the accuracy of this allegation of the extent to which the Russian intelligence analysis may reflect exaggeration or fabrication,” the Durham report stated.
“According to his handwritten notes, CIA Director Brennan subsequently briefed President Obama and other senior national security officials on the intelligence, including the “alleged approval by Hillary Clinton on July 26, 2016 of a proposal from one of her foreign policy advisors to vilify Donald Trump by stirring up a scandal claiming inference by Russian security services,” the report said.
President Trump responded to Special Counsel John Durham’s final report on his investigation into the origins of Spygate.
“WOW! After extensive research, Special Counsel John Durham concludes the FBI never should have launched the Trump-Russia Probe! In other words, the American Public was scammed, just as it is being scammed right now by those who don’t want to see GREATNESS for AMERICA!” Trump said.

Shades of the Watergate Saturday Night Massacre?
A letter sent Monday to Republican and Democrat members of House and Senate committees by attorneys representing the IRS whistleblower in the Hunter Biden investigation states that the whistleblower and his team of investigators have been removed from the investigation at the request of the Justice Department.
The news broke the same day a free-as-a-bird Hunter Biden joined his father and family at a graduation ceremony for his daughter Maisy:

Dear Chairs and Ranking Members:
Today the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) Criminal Supervisory Special Agent we represent was informed that he and his entire investigative team are being removed from the ongoing and sensitive investigation of the high-profile, controversial subject about which our client sought to make whistleblower disclosures to Congress. He was informed the change was at the request of the Department of Justice.
On April 27, 2023, IRS Commissioner Daniel Werfel appeared before the House Committee on Ways and Means. He testified: “I can say without any hesitation there will be no retaliation for anyone making an allegation or a call to a whistleblower hotline.” However, this move is clearly retaliatory and may also constitute obstruction of a congressional inquiry.
Our client has a right to make disclosures to Congress pursuant to 26 U.S.C. § 6103(f)(5) and 5U.S.C. § 7211. He is protected by 5 U.S.C. § 2302 from retaliatory personnel actions—including receiving a “significant change in duties, responsibilities, or working conditions”1 (which this clearly is) because of his disclosures to Congress.2 Any attempt by any government official to prevent a federal employee from furnishing information to Congress is also a direct violation of longstanding appropriations restriction.3 Furthermore, 18 U.S.C. § 1505 makes it a crime to obstruct an investigation of Congress.
We respectfully request that you give this matter your prompt attention. Removing the experienced investigators who have worked this case for years and are now the subject-matter experts is exactly the sort of issue our client intended to blow the whistle on to begin with.

CBS News reported last week the whistleblower’s attorney recently met with members of Congress (excerpt):
The attorney for the IRS whistleblower who has alleged that the Justice Department interfered in and mishandled the Hunter Biden criminal probe met with members of Congress last week on behalf of his client, according to two sources familiar with the matter.
The Friday meeting was described to CBS News as a proffer session with the House Ways and Means and Senate Finance committees to lay the groundwork for what the whistleblower could tell investigators and how he could do so without running afoul of taxpayer privacy laws. CNN first reported the meeting.
In a letter to Congress last month, the attorney, Mark Lytle, said his client, an unnamed IRS criminal supervisory special agent, could shed light on how the years-long, high-profile investigation had been hindered by “preferential treatment and politics.” However, Lytle said his client could not share “certain information” because of the taxpayer privacy laws.

One of the most controversial episodes of the Watergate scandal, the so-called “Saturday Night Massacre” came on October 20, 1973, when embattled President Richard Nixon fired Special Prosecutor Archibald Cox and accepted the resignations of Attorney General Elliot Richardson and Deputy Attorney General William Ruckelshaus.
The “massacre” stemmed from an inquiry into the notorious June 1972 break-in at the Watergate complex, in which five Nixon operatives were caught trying to bug the Democratic National Committee headquarters. Archibald Cox, a Harvard law professor and former U.S. solicitor general, was tapped to investigate the incident in May 1973. He soon clashed with the White House over Nixon’s refusal to release over 10 hours of secret Oval Office recordings, some of which implicated the president in the break-in.
On October 20, 1973, in an unprecedented show of executive power, Nixon ordered Attorney General Elliot Richardson and Deputy Attorney General William Ruckelshaus to fire Cox, but both men refused and resigned their posts in protest. The role of attorney general then fell to Solicitor General Robert Bork, who reluctantly complied with Nixon’s request and dismissed Cox. Less than a half hour later, the White House dispatched FBI agents to close off the offices of the Special Prosecutor, Attorney General and Deputy Attorney General.

Earlier today Special Counsel John Durham released his final report concluding the FBI had no verified intel when it opened the Crossfire Hurricane investigation into Trump in 2016, according to Just the News.
This was Durham’s final report. There will be no arrests. The American people were lied to for years as the intel community worked feverishly to accomplish their coup on President Trump. And THEY ALL KNEW it was a lie.
Tonight Senator Josh Hawley (R-MO) joined Jesse Watters on FOX News to discuss the final Durham Report. Hawley says the FBI should be disbanded.
Sen. Josh Hawley: There needs to be a lot more than reports, Jesse. People need to be prosecuted for this. The Clinton campaign and Hillary Clinton herself. Is it any coincidence that she is tweeting about collusion at exactly the same time her campaign operatives are feeding this BS to the FBI? I don’t think so. There needs to be consequences for her and also for the FBI.
FBI leadership has clearly got to be changed. And, Jesse, I’m of the mind we need to end the FBI as we know it. It needs to be broken up. I mean, clearly it has become corrupt.
