Democrat Rep. Jamie Raskin is once again under scrutiny—this time for remarks made during a Face the Nation interview following the shocking shooting at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner.
Instead of focusing on the immediate facts of the attack, the suspect, or the broader security implications, Raskin quickly pivoted to a familiar political narrative: gun control and systemic “political violence.” 
The response follows a pattern that has become increasingly common in Washington, where major incidents are rapidly folded into broader policy arguments before the full details are even established.
During the interview, Raskin described the chaos inside the ballroom, recounting the moment guests were forced to the ground after hearing multiple loud bangs. 
The scene, by all accounts, was serious and alarming. But rather than staying focused on the event itself, Raskin used the moment to draw comparisons to school shootings and broader gun violence statistics, citing daily shooting figures across the country.
That framing immediately raises questions.
School shootings, while tragic, are statistically extremely rare compared to other forms of violence, particularly gang-related crime and illegal firearm use in major cities. Yet, they are often emphasized in political messaging because of their emotional impact. 
By invoking school violence in response to an incident involving a politically motivated suspect targeting Trump Administration officials, Raskin blurred the distinction between fundamentally different types of crime.
The pivot did not stop there.
In one of the more controversial moments of the interview, Raskin turned his attention to the Department of Justice’s prosecution of the Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC). 
As previously reported by The Gateway Pundit, the organization is currently facing a federal indictment alleging serious financial misconduct, including fraud and the alleged diversion of donor funds.
Rather than addressing the substance of those allegations, Raskin suggested that prosecuting the SPLC could actually contribute to political extremism. That argument is difficult to reconcile with the nature of the charges. 
Federal prosecutors have outlined claims that involve years of alleged financial deception and misuse of funds—issues that would typically demand accountability regardless of political affiliation.
The implication of Raskin’s argument is significant. It suggests that legal action against a politically aligned organization is inherently suspect, even when backed by a federal indictment. 
That position risks undermining confidence in the rule of law, particularly when applied selectively.
The broader issue highlighted by the interview is not just the content of Raskin’s remarks, but the pattern they represent. 
A serious security incident involving an alleged attempt to target government officials quickly became a platform for advancing pre-existing policy positions—ranging from gun control to defending a politically connected nonprofit.
At a time when public trust in institutions remains fragile, responses like this only deepen divisions. 
Instead of clarifying facts, they shift attention. Instead of addressing accountability, they introduce new political narratives.
The result is a conversation that moves further away from the incident itself—and closer to a predictable cycle of partisan framing.
That approach may be politically effective. But it leaves serious questions unanswered.

North Dakota state rep Liz Conmy was killed in a plane crash on Saturday.
Liz Conmy was a member of the North Dakota Democratic–Nonpartisan League party, an affiliate of the Democrat party.
The small plane crashed shortly after taking off near Crystal Airport in Minnesota.
Video posted to social media shows a huge fireball as the plane crashed.
The pilot was also killed in the crash.

A small plane crashed near Crystal Airport, killing both people on board and drawing a swift response from emergency crews and neighbors.
Investigators say the crash happened shortly after takeoff, with the plane identified as a Beech F33A. The Brooklyn Park Fire Department arrived within minutes and put out the fire. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) confirmed there were two people on the plane and local authorities said there were no survivors.
Neighbors living near the crash site described hearing a loud boom and seeing flames.
“I was in the house, in my bedroom, and my daughter was eating cereal at the kitchen table, and there was a really loud boom,” said Ashley Capp, who lives across the street.
Kim Clark, another neighbor, said, “It was scary because it was like, it’s really close to my home, and my family stays here.”
Clark captured video of the plane engulfed in flames just after the crash.
Liz Conmy was a mother to four children.
She served in the North Dakota state house since 2023.

Governor Octavio Guzman said the ‘tragedy’ is part of a ‘terrorist escalation’.
“Visuals shared by Guzman on X showed extensive damage to a number of vehicles. Some cars had been overturned because of the force of the blast. Another image showed a large crater etched into the highway, following the attack.
President Gustavo Petro blamed the attack on Ivan Mordisco — one of Colombia’s most wanted criminals — whom the leftist leader has compared to the late drug lord Pablo Escobar. He called those responsible ‘terrorists, fascists and drug traffickers’.”

President Donald Trump held an urgent press conference from the White House on Saturday evening, just hours after a gunman opened fire inside the Washington Hilton during the White House Correspondents’ Dinner.
The president confirmed that a Secret Service agent had been shot, but was saved by his bulletproof vest.
“I just spoke to the officer. He’s in great shape!” Trump told reporters.
Trump said that the vest “did the job” and protected the agent from what could have been a fatal incident.

Trump repeatedly praised the bravery of the Secret Service team, saying they quickly neutralized the threat and prevented a much worse tragedy.

Following the shooting, the event was cut short, and Trump was evacuated along with Melania Trump before being rushed back to the White House.
As The Gateway Pundit previously reported, the suspected shooter has been identified as 31-year-old Cole Tomas Allen of California, who is alive and in custody.
Allen worked as a teacher and was named “Teacher of the Month” in December 2024 at C2 Education in Torrance, according to an Instagram post.

The Associated Press reports:
A law enforcement official confirmed there was a shooter. A law enforcement officer was shot in the bullet-resistant vest but is expected to be OK, one law-enforcement officer told The Associated Press.
Some in the crowd reported hearing what they believed to be five to eight shots fired. The banquet hall — where hundreds of prominent journalists, celebrities and national leaders were awaiting Trump’s remarks — was immediately evacuated. Members of the National Guard took up position inside the building as people were allowed to leave but not immediately re-enter. Security outside was also extremely tight.
Those in attendance included Trump, Vice President JD Vance, Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, Secretary of State Marco Rubio and many other leaders of the Trump administration.

President Reagan was shot 25 years ago on March 30, 1981, outside the Washington Hilton in Washington, D.C. Tonight, only minutes before the White House Correspondents’ Dinner was set to kick off, multiple shots were heard ringing out inside the venue.
President Trump, First Lady Melania Trump, Vice President JD Vance, Speaker of the House Mike Johnson, Secretary of War Pete Hegseth, Karoline Leavitt, DNI Tulsi Gabbard, and several other cabinet members were in attendance for the dinner when the reported 6-7 shots were fired. Charlie Kirk’s widow, Erika Kirk, was also in attendance and was seen visibly shaken, hiding under the table.
This video shows VP JD Vance quickly exiting the room and then President Trump and First Lady Melania being hustled out of the room on the other side of the stage.

The shooter allegedly attempted to enter the room but was stopped by the Secret Service at the magnetometer. Every guest entering the main dining room where the event was set to take place had to pass through manetometers to check for weapons or metal objects like guns or knives. According to unconfirmed reports, the shooter was trying to get through the manetometer when he was stopped by US Secret Service. One of the US Secret Service members was reportedly shot by the alleged shooter, but was fortunately unharmed as his protective vest deflected the bullet.
Several reports were circulating, especially by CNN, which claimed the shooter was shot dead in the lobby of the hotel. It appears, by videos and images circulating on social media, that the alleged shooter is still alive. From the photos, the shooter appears to be a male with white or light brown skin, but this is unconfirmed.

The suspected shooter at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner has been identified as 31-year-old Cole Tomas Allen of Torrance, California.
Allen is in custody, despite initial reports that he was fatally shot, and was taken alive after Secret Service agents neutralized him in the lobby near the security screening area.

Allen appears to be a Caltech graduate who earned his master’s degree in computer science from California State University, Dominguez Hills last year.
Allen also worked as a teacher. He was named “Teacher of the Month” in December 2024 at C2 Education in Torrance, according to an Instagram post.

No manifesto or clear motive has been publicly released as of early Sunday morning, and the investigation remains ongoing.

Israel announced on Thursday the appointment of its first “special envoy to the Christian world” following some recent embarrassing incidents directed at the faith’s adherents.
Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Sa’ar appointed veteran diplomat George Deek to the newly created role, saying the move is “intended to deepen Israel’s ties with Christian communities around the world.”
“He is a member of the Arab-Christian community in Jaffa and has been active in this society since a young age. His father, Yosef Deek, was the chairman of the Christian-Orthodox community in Jaffa and Israel for many years,” the Foreign Ministry said of George Deek.
“The State of Israel attaches great importance to its relations with the Christian world and with its Christian friends around the world. I am confident that George, an esteemed and experienced diplomat, will contribute greatly to deepening the friendship and strengthening the ties between the State of Israel and the Christian world,” Sa’ar said, according to a translation.

Earlier this week, the Israeli Defense Forces stated that one of its soldiers who took a sledgehammer to a statue of Jesus in southern Lebanon, and another who photographed him doing it, would be removed from combat operations and imprisoned for 30 days.
In addition to that incident earlier this week, Israeli police initially blocked Latin Patriarch Pierbattista Pizzaballa, the top Roman Catholic official in the Holy Land, and other senior clergy from conducting a Palm Sunday service at the Church of the Holy Sepulchre due to wartime restrictions, The Times of Israel reported.
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu intervened, granting the clergy “full and immediate access” to the site.
The Times of Israel further reported that “a 2024 Annual Report by the Rossing Center for Education and Dialogue documented 111 reported cases of attacks against Christians, including 46 physical attacks, 35 attacks against church properties, and 13 cases of harassment.”
Most perpetrators appeared to belong to the ultra-Orthodox and national-religious communities, and they directed their attacks primarily at Christian clergy members or people wearing visible Christian symbols.
Netanyahu posted Monday on social media in response to the Jesus statue incident, “Yesterday, like the overwhelming majority of Israelis, I was stunned and saddened to learn that an IDF soldier damaged a Catholic religious icon in southern Lebanon. I condemn the act in the strongest terms.”
The prime minister also noted that Israel allows for religious freedom, unlike many other nations in the region. “All religions flourish in our land and we view members of all faiths as equals in building our society and region,” he wrote.

The Times of Israel reported, “Israel’s Christians account for 1.9 percent of the country’s population, and grew by 0.7% from 2023 to 2024, Israel’s Central Bureau of Statistics reported in December. Some 184,200 Christians currently live in Israel, according to the CBS. Nazareth has the largest Christian population with 18,900, followed by Haifa (18,800), Jerusalem (13,400) and Nof HaGalil (10,800).”
Among the American electorate, white evangelical Christians have the most favorable view of Israel at 65 percent support, with those who adhere to the Jewish faith coming in close behind at 64 percent, according to a Pew Research Center poll published this month.
An NBC News survey published last month determined that 57 percent of Democrats view Israel negatively, while 54 percent of Republicans view the Jewish state positively.

Left-wing media is once again scrambling to rewrite recent history—this time over Afghan refugees still stranded overseas after Joe Biden’s catastrophic withdrawal from Afghanistan.
During a recent segment, MSNOW attempted to frame President Donald Trump as “targeting” Afghan allies who assisted the United States during the war. 
The claim centers around reports that some Afghan nationals currently living in Qatar may be given relocation options outside the United States, including possible resettlement in other countries.
But the outrage narrative leaves out the most important facts.
First, these individuals were not universally promised permanent resettlement in the United States—certainly not under the Trump administration. 
The idea that every Afghan who assisted U.S. efforts was guaranteed entry into the U.S. is simply false. Immigration and refugee policy has always involved a structured vetting process, prioritization, and logistical constraints.
The current situation exists because of Biden’s 2021 withdrawal—an operation widely criticized across the political spectrum for its execution.
When the Taliban rapidly took over Afghanistan following Biden’s decision to withdraw U.S. forces, thousands of Afghan allies were left in limbo. Many were relocated to temporary holding locations, including a former U.S. military base in Qatar. 
Years later, many remain there, waiting for final decisions on resettlement.
That is the context MSNOW conveniently ignored.
Instead, the segment leaned heavily on emotional framing, highlighting interpreters, special forces affiliates, and families—including hundreds of children—while suggesting the Trump administration is abandoning them. 
The reporting relied in part on claims from outlets like The New York Times, which often shape the initial narrative before it spreads across legacy media.
What is actually being discussed is policy—not abandonment.
Any proposal to relocate individuals to third countries is part of a broader effort to manage a complex backlog created by the rushed withdrawal. 
The United States faces limits in processing capacity, security vetting, and long-term integration resources. Those realities do not disappear simply because media outlets frame the issue emotionally.
There is also a double standard in how “promises” are being discussed.
Under the Biden administration, mass entry into the United States surged to record levels, with millions of foreigners encountering minimal barriers at the border. Against that backdrop, claims about strict obligations to resettle specific groups ring hollow. 
If anything, the broader immigration system has already been stretched beyond its limits.
Democrats now argue that any alternative to immediate U.S. resettlement for Afghan Refugees is “anti-American.” That argument ignores the fact that refugee policy has always involved coordination with allied countries. 
Resettlement does not automatically mean relocation to the United States—especially in cases involving large populations and long delays.
The real story is not about Trump “turning away” allies. Rather, it’s about a policy mess created in 2021 that is still being dealt with years later.
And once again, instead of confronting that reality, legacy media outlets are choosing narrative over facts.

Trump released a statement after the shooting:
Quite an evening in D.C. Secret Service and Law Enforcement did a fantastic job. They acted quickly and bravely. The shooter has been apprehended, and I have recommended that we “LET THE SHOW GO ON” but, will entirely be guided by Law Enforcement. They will make a decision shortly. Regardless of that decision, the evening will be much different than planned, and we’ll just, plain, have to do it again. President DONALD J. TRUMP

Law Enforcement has requested that we leave the premises, consistent with protocol, which we will do, immediately.
